Sound Blaster Sound card

By moor2442 ·
I have a Creative labs Ensoniq Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V sound card that I have tried to install the drivers for in an 400Mhz K6-2 , 64Mb System. And keep receiving a message that says the drivers I am about to install are not for the sound card, after going to Creatives site and downloading the drivers as well as the installation disk that came with the card.Everything had worked fine before, but due to a hard drive failure had to start all over, and to no avail I have no sound what so ever . The speakers are known good and plugged into to the power source...This thing is really getting on my nerves so any help would be GREATLY !!!! appreciated
Thank-you (in advance) for any help you may provide

Sound Blaster Sound card

Couple of questions first. What operating system? When you reinstalled the O/S after the HDD failure, did the O/S recognized the sound card and ask for the mfg disk? When you used the mfg disk, did the O/S state "about to install drivers not for the card"?

A possible work around is to uninstall the device reboot and have the O/S recognize the device. When you get to the part of installing drivers and the O/S searches and does not find any, continue throught to the finish screen. Then from thecontrol panel, open system, open device manager, locate the sound card. Right click and choose properties. Then select the driver tab. Then click the install/update driver tab and try loading the drivers that way. Also, you might want to try disabling O/S aware PnP in the BIOS and have the BIOS assign IRQ's instead of the O/S.
