Sound Card Detection in XP

By yagniks ·
We have upgraded a Win98 system to Win-XP. All the other devices were autodetected except the onboard soundcard C-media 8738/c3dx. We down loaded the Xp compatible driver from and retried installation of the sound card. The driver got installed , but in the control panel , sound card option , no audio device is shown. Can somebody give a solution?

Check Device Manager, it it shown there yet? Is there a yellow exclamation mark? If so, then that driver is not suitable for your card. Use a different one.

A XP setup done, afresh, on a similar machine, after fornmatting the HDD detects the card perfectly with the driver I use then. Is'nt it surprising? Why in the upgrade mode from 98 to xp the driver fails to be accepted.
