ummm there should be a little Icon in the system tray for sound. right click and choose volume control. check to make sure the mute box is NOT checked. if checked uncheck it then try sound. Next place to look, again right click on the sound icon in the sys tray and choose adjust audio properties. click the sounds tab and see if a default sound scheme is listed or is the no sounds scheme is listed. if not, or if the no sounds scheme is listed, from the pull down menu choose Windows default. Check to see if you have sound.

Last but not least uninstall the drivers and reinstall the ones that came with your sound card.

one question. why have sounds on a server? [other than audible beep warnings for like system temp, cpu temp, server case open, and those can use the case speaker and not need a sound card.

I would suggest installing the specific driver for the sound card you have. I have had more problems with sound card and modem drivers than anything else.
