Sound Card installation problem

By Abbasi ·
I installed a sound card on my Win2000 pro machine. I checked in systms-> hardware-> device manager, it looks like installation is OK. I can also see ths sound sign in systems tray. The problem is that some how sound and mic are not working. I changed two sound cards but none of them are working. When i turn on computer it keeps installing driver by itself. Even i taken out sound card from slot and it installs CMI8330, Audio Codec, MPU 401 compatible MIDI device. It is not installing actual sound card driver, which i got with sound card. I changed 02 brand new cards but still have same problem. Any advise or opinion will be appreciated.

Does your motherboard have an on-board sound option?

Make sure in BIOS settings that on-board sound is disabled even if the jacks for the on-board sound are not present.

Thanks chas, my mother board does not have on board sound option. I always used PCI slots for sound card.

This is going to sound a bit wierd but try it and get back to me with the result.

Disable your Modem in the Device Manager and restart, if the CMI8330 Driver Doesn't try to install again, than that sound device is from the modem and not your sound card.

I got this when i googled CMI8330,
"the C-Media CMI8330 sound chip. This sound chip is used as the basis for several sound cards, and is also used with some modems."

Also have you tried Checking the Volume Control to see if you have WAVE muted or lowered?

Sometimes the genius gets the best of us and we overlook the obvious.

seems like ur soundcard keeps getting your previous driver. from the device manager, click on d souncard & remove it including d software.
then restart your computer. install d right driver this time.

Hi, remove the sound card and its driver and restart the system. then try fixing the sound card and install the driver. if problem occurs yet then, uninstall all of the drivers, and first install the sound driver and then install other drivers.
