I hope some one can help in this. Recently the alert sound stopped coming from the sound card speaker. It is now a beep from the PC speaker. The sound card is still installed and works well on many applications. The problem is when I receive an email, I hear a beep rather than the usual chime from the sound card. If I click on the speaker icon in the task bar and change the volume I hear the beep. Yet if I open the Sounds in the Control Panel, all the sound files are ok and play via the sound card.
This is on Windows NT 4.0 Server, Service Pack 6.0.
Any help would be appreciated. I removed the sound card driver and reinstalled but the same problem.
