It wasn't allways like that. I was having display problems, and somehow when I got that fixed I lost my audio. Now it says I have no sound card, but I do. My computer is a People PC Toshiba, running windows 98. Can you give me any help to get sound again? I have already tried to reinstall the driver, but to no avail.

Did you go into device manager and see if you have any conflicts? Try removing the sound card from the computer. Open the case and remove it, reboot. Then turn it off and reinstall the card, the hardware wizard should find the card and prompt you for the driver. If it dont try add remove programs to remove any sound related software. And try a second time. Did you add any new hardware or software befor the sound stopped working?
I looked in the unit, did not see a card-couple of yellow exclamations in device mngr- she is the original downloader-putting programs in & deleting like it was a hobby- could she have wiped out original setup like that? this unit she got used-yard or moving sale & has no 98me disk to get the original info from-hmmm
Start your computer and Boot into safe mode Open the Control Panel,double-click the System icon and once Device Manager opens, locate Multimedia and then highlight and click properties, insert the cd -rom with the sound card drivers, select install driver, this should reinstall the driver, click OK and reboot
when I open the multimedia there is nothing for the sound-my mistake thinking there was a 'sound-card'-sorry,thought she(my gal)told me it had a card, she got this thing used-how could she have wiped out the 98me sound setup anyhow-
