sound is not workin properly

Guys ,
I have dual boot on my system with win 2k and wind XP with all in NTFS. I just loaded creative vibra 128 bit sound card. In XP eveerything is working properly but in WIn 2k , when i play mp3s or anyother music files from CD ROM it gives distortion (like repeating or skipping. like ohh rain is fafafafafa lling ) every say one min or half a min. WHat can be the problem. The same music file if i copy on hard disk and run it plays good. In XP CD ROM is not giving any such problem. Shoould iReinstall win2k. is it installation problem?
