sound issues with XP SP2

by voodoochile415 . Updated 19 years ago

System:
p4 3.0 Ghz
Realtek AC’97 sound card
GeForce GS/OC 7800
Win XP SP2

i was updating several drivers and other software, i installed service pack 2 for XP (my computer was a virgin to the internet and, sadly, still is)in an attempt to gain internet access via WiFi. the net access is not my current issue, though. after installing these updates (new sound card driver, video card driver, service pack, windows wireless network updates, .Net, etc.) i began to experience studdering in my sound. this is most noticible when i play games or music. it seems to be sound related- the sound will have a sort of electric buzzing/skipping and it causes the game/song to skip along with it. the glitch is EXTREMELY annoying.
i have tried re-installing the old drivers, using the default windows drivers, and getting several different types of Realtek drivers. i have done everything but re-install windows, which i may do to see if it helps with the internet issue. any suggestions would help.
