Sound Max V4.0

I have Intel P4 HT motherboard.This has soundmax 4.0 chip attached.I am now having trouble to record messgaes and speak over the IP telephony.This problem I am facing for the last couple of days.I tried installing new drivers from Intel website.But didnt help.So went back to old set of drivers.Any suggestions as to how I can get back to the earlier working status.I have Windows XP Professional

Never used it before but have you tried system restore? Roll back to a date that you know it was working.

It could also be the Sound Chip failing causing the problem. I've seen quite a few of these failed and to get around the problem the people just fit Sound Cards and disable the On Board Sound in BIOS. If the Board is still UG I would RMA it to the supplier but if it's now a Pay for repair job It's cheaper to just pick up a PCI sound card and install that.
