I have a Windows XP Pro (OEM) computer whose sound (Creative Digital 5.1) stopped working. Device Manager says the device is working properly. However, Sound and Audio Device properties from Control Panel say there is no audio device.
I tried to uninstall SB Live! 5.1 series program and I got the following error message.
Unhandled Exception.
Error Code: 0x80040201
An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers.
I tried on different PCI slots and different sound cards one at a time and got no sound. Again, Device Manager says the device works but no audio device in Sound and Audio Device Properties.
It is not the motherboard problem. I clean installed Windows in a different HD and the sound worked. This indicated the Windows itself is the cause. Repair installation of Windows did not work. System Restore failed to go back to any date.
Is there any I should try?
