soundcard not working on motherboard

By captainsib ·
i am running windows 7 with a ASUS A8V-VM motherboard, my device manager tells me the VIA VT8237A/8251/8261 - High Definition Audio Controller is working properly but i have no sound from my speakers. I thought this would be due to the driver not being compatible with windows 7.
Can anyone suggest a way in which i can get the driver which will run the audio.

I also have a seperate soundcard in the computer, this is a Hercules soundcard with a chip on it which reads
CM8738/PCI-6ch-LX, but this device is unknown and when i try to install a driver for it, the card isnt found.

cheers again for your time with this insane dilema.

ASUS doesn't provide 7 Drivers for this M'Board

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to soundcard not working on ...

But probably more importantly which Sound Card was in use previously?

What did the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser say would work and what would not work before you installed 7?

If the Upgrade Adviser said that the sound wouldn't work then it's not going to work. You have to remove the Plug in Sound card and fit one that is supported for 7.

Also if you where using the Plug In Sound Card previously I would tend to think that the On Board Sound is turned off int he BIOS to prevent Device and Addressing Conflicts from occurring so that the On Board Sound is disabled.

When I was testing 7 it installed all of the drivers during the install and if something wasn't going to work just like the Upgrade Adviser claimed there was no way to make it work with 7.

This is exactly the same as when XP came out there was a lot of Hardware that simply did not work with XP and there only alternative if XP had to be used was to replace the hardware with new products.
