sounds and audio devices won't see ac'97 onboard device

By Pinkishblueblack ·
i tried installing drivers for a pinnacle 80 capture card device, and windows ran into an error it couldn't recover from, so it kept restarting until i removed it from the usb port. when i installed drivers from the cd i came to find that after many restarts my CD disc drives and my audio device, realtek ac`97 onboard, had conflicting issues and would not work.
so after i got my cd disc drives working again, i got to trying to re-install drivers for the audio device. basically i've been trying to install, uninstall, and install again these drivers from websites and the mobo cd and none of it has worked.
here is what i've got:

Same problem with Realtek AC'97 Audio

by chfcontact-account In reply to sounds and audio devices ...

Here's some update of my previous post:

I found a workaround solution as recommended by member 'Tors' in this forum:

The posting is titled 'A workaround' dated 12-01-2007. By turning off Windows Automatic update, the sound setup is not disturbed.

Hi I have exactly the same problem as you described. Realtek '97 Audio stopped working suddenly. It could be due to a recent windows or java update. Can't be sure. I'm still trouleshooting.

I did notice that when the system is just started, the sound system does work. When I clicked on the volume control the sound device was active. However as the start up progresses, I get an error messsage: 'An unhandled win32 exception occurred in svchost.exe[1896]'. After that the Realtek AC'97 Audio can no longer be detected.

This has happened consistently after serveral reboots. I wonder which process is causing the problem. Will take some time to trace it.
