SP 2 Download Problems

By renowayne2006 ·
I have an HP XL-916 I downloaded SP2, and when I get to the windows splash, after restarting, the screen just goes blank. I went into safe mode, and when I tried to uninstall the upgrade, access was denied. How can I get into the system to uninstall?
I tried the "last know config. that worked", and the same thing happened. I also went to microsoft, they suggested that I go into MS DOS, which I did, by running my boot disks, system still not responding. I cannot even get a command prompt to work. Need some help here, system is vital to our network. Thanks.

Hi,

Boot your system from your original WinXP cd and when you get to the 'Welcome to Setup' screen, press 'Enter'...accept the license agreement, select the WinXP installation from the list you want to repair (assuming you have multiple) and press 'R' to start a repair. Setup will do it's thing and reboot, but do not press any key to boot from the cd again, let it continue, as if it's doing a clean install, but it will keep your settings & applications intact. The repair install will remove any SP's. You may just wanna do updates again afterwards, but skip SP2 for now...hehe.

Hope it works for you.

It is called an InPlace Upgrade. It does roll back all service packs. You will have to reinstall everything but SP2.

You would not believe the grief that service pack 2 has caused. Well, maby you would
