SP1 Slows network perf, Outlook, etc.

By SuperMCSE ·
Has anyone else noticed this or found a fix for it? Right wafter we installed Service Pack 1 on half a dozen XP Pro workstations, network performance slowed especially in outllok retrieving messages from the Exchange 2000 server.

I noticed the same thing on my home network. Running an exchange server 5.5 there - everything ground to a halt. I uninstalled the service pack and rolled back the system to the day before I installed the service pack and everything returned to normal.....strange,

I figured it out. We'd disabled Instant Messenger and the new SP1 didn't like that very much. Enabling it has allowed us to work around the problem.

It might have something to do with GHP win32 services - apparently it does quite a bit of communicating by phoning home to MS - I use ZAPro (firewall) and have been struggling with GHP win32 services and several applications and Internet-related programs connected to it - it slowed down my system drastcially after the SP1 - and I also rolled back - but before I did, I noticed GHP win32 services was working my firewall even more than before the install. =\

GHP win32 services is Generic Host Process for win32 services by the way.

Solution there is no fix for this however -=DaRk_sHaDoW=- Technology's Inc Recommends the following via microsoft report gathered via here: support.microsoft.com there is a help topic under FAQ For After Installation Of SP1 For WINXP With NTFS however i would suggest that you should uninstall SP1 And install it on C: drive or the drive that contains windows because prior to the way the Sp1 works is it gathers the information via windows and create a folder in which contains the installation andfiles etc..... if installed to a different drive then what windows is on i would asume there would be a problem however if c: d: are different in one is FAT32 and one is NTFS there will be a huge problem prior to if you have installed winxp on FAT32and the update of SP1 for winxp on the other because there completely different File System All Together one built on Network and the other on file allocation
'However installing this will resolve to reduced performace if small hard drive space however stating that you have NTFS you must have at least a 30-40 GB HDD if not you could not have NTFS however installing SP1 is a 135MB file which atibutes at over 300-500 MB on the file system HDD etc......

Try the above

If Not Try This

Uninstall and reinstall
or.......
system Restore
format
unpartion

If Its no big deal then just simply put up with it

Ohhhhhhhh and defrag cant move windows update folder that are not supposed to be moved for security and binary purposes.

Like i said there is currently no fix for this however try the above they worked for me Answer 2 has a bit to do with this but i suggest you try the above and keep a nie out for the patch for SP1 coming out soon microsoft was informing -=DaRk_sHaDoW=- technology regard to it coming out some time in the near future around 10-11 of 2002

Hope This Helps
Goodluck Brus!
