SP3 (not enough space)?

By Navjun ·
unfortunatly when our win 2k server was installed it was installed on a 2 gig partion out of a 60 gig raid drive and the rest was used for files and when i came in i uninsttaled regular programs and tried to install them on the bigger partion. now that i'm trying to install sp3 i get the enough disk space error since my 2 gig drive is almost full ... i need help to either somehow make the partion bigger or use the space on the bigger drive to install sp3

I had the same problem with my win2k workstation. You need the extra space for the uninstall backup. I couldn't find any way to save the backup to a different partition so did SP3 without the backup, luckily it went well. I wouldn't recommend thatwith a server.
I have since used Partition Magic to make a larger partition.

use the dosk management utility and see if your disks are dynamic, and if not make them dynamic. then you can span volumes accrossed multiple logical drives. If not, move things like your swap file to the other drive.

Be careful with the first answer to this....its just kinda dangerous on a server not to mention Raid.
I had the issue on a member server and the space was only 2 gig on my server. I unistalled unnessacery file from the server and took out any servvices I did not need like IIS,umedia, message queing, and also any temp files that might be on the server. Also remember you can move application directories from that server and move just the folders from like the programs menu to another server on your network. When you are done installing the service pack on your computer. Make sure you will have enough Disk space still to move the folders back. Be careful though and make sure your backuos are uo to date.
Good Luck my friend

I would create an image of the system partition with ghost and then use partition magic to delete and create a new, larger partition and then just ghost the image back. Remember to make the partition primary and active.

Perform a full system state back up first and remember to verify that the backup is good
