space problem in c drive

By siddiqui.majid ·
I have windows xp sp2 installed in my computer with 40GB of hard drive with two partition C(20GB) and D(20GB). when i see property of C drive it is 19GB of used space. I open C drive by double click and select all files and folder by Ctrl+A and go to property, it shows only 11GB of used space. system restore is off, recycle bin is using 200MB of space. I have deleted temp from c:\windows\user\locla..\temp
and from c:\windows\temp. I have used disc cleanup. but only 500MB it is increase.
my D drive is showing proper. can anyone help me...

Re. Space problem in c drive

What is happening is that your system has a swap memory that windows uses, so it might make your "used space" look more than what it really means. If your computer is running ok with no errors why make more work for your self. Let your computer do its job while you do the "input".

Please post back if you have anymore problems or questions.

Check file compression

If it's not the swap file allocating space then verify that you do not have file compression turned on. That would give you conflicting disk space as well.

Hidden Files

by BlackDiamond In reply to space problem in c drive

Hey,

Do you have any options set for hiding files such as system files?

Open explorer
Click Tools
Click Folder Options
Click the View tab
Scroll down to Hide protected operating system files
Uncheck the box

Run defrag also
