Speed Up IE6...

By cyberghost_1 ·
How can I speed up IE6 loading pages? IE seems to load images very slowly now, it didn't used to. What settings can I modify that will help speed up loading time? I have 64Mb RAM 700MHz Celeron, DX 9beta (I DL DX8.1 too) IE6 SP1 witha all updates. Like 40Mb Temp IE Cache setting. Although a program I have says that my current Internet Explorer Actual Cache was at 130Mb. Where can I find that setting and what can I do to speed this up?

First and foremost, add more RAM. 64MB just ain't good enough for IE6. Depending on OS, 128 to 256MB is minimal for decent performance.

For a good primer on IE settings, check the following link:

Add memory. another 64 mg at least. Check for virus infections if you havent. use Spybot search and destroy along with Adaware 6.0. This should speed things up a bit

First up, clear your temp cache - your temporary internet files. And clear all cookies. Run some spyware apps as stated above.

If you are running Windows 98, then IE6 can cause trouble with some installations of Windows 98, particularly with memory leaks, and very particularly related to MS Access. If this sounds familiar, then you could try "ieradicator" (do an internet search for it) and that will remove IE6 and allow you to install IE5.5, installable files of which are still available around the internet.

You could also try using another browser, like Mozilla Firefox, and see if that is just as slow or it performs better. It would help you isolate whether it is really IE6 or it is something else.

Good luck

Alan
