My client had a split-office condition resulting from two partners joining. They had ISDN at each location but did not WAN link the sites together. They had two Exchange 5.5 servers where technically two FQDNs. Server One was the primary name (user@maindomain.com) and it had routing connections to the other Server Two (which was BOTH user@mail.maindomain.com AND user@otherdomain.com). Apparently, the ISP helped configure the servers as well.
Both servers are completely gone and they have different ISP. I have configured a brand new Server “Three” as the only mail server (SBS 4.5 w/ Exchange 5.5 and IIS 2.0). Internet access is fine, outbound smtp mail has headers with the correct network IP and new server “three” name.
Inbound mail to user@maindomain.com does not arrive BUT mail to user@otherdomain.com does!
NSLookup shows the MX pointer at mail.maindomain.com with the correct IP address.
Is there something in DNS that the old ISP is still controlling? I’m stumped. Please post or e-mail direct at matthew.damp@sbworks.com. Thanks.
