Spool32 Error

By deann.ziba ·
I have one user who occasionally gets a spool32 error when printing Excel Spreadsheets. I haven't had any luck figuring out the root cause.
Anyone have any tips?

Make sure you have the latest driver for your printer.

Spool32.exe may be corrupt. Copy one in from another machine. (You can't do it when Windows is running-have to go to DOS mode).

If that doesn't work, here's a site devoted to SPOOL32 errors:

Try to change the printer port driver in device manager to "printer port" instead of "ECP Printer Port". This has corrected my problems in the past. Also you can try getting an older version of LPT.VXD, this has also helped me.

Printing RAW or direct printing:

Try this, Select your printer properties, click details tap, select "spool settings...", Select print directly to the printer, click ok, exit out. Also, clear your temp files from c:\windows\temp folder and try printing.

Assuming that the printer is connected directly to the machine or the network then check the amount of free disk space on the users machine or the printserver, if there is not enough, try cleaning out the windows temp directory and also the temporary internet files directory on the users machine or removing unnecessary files or programs from the printserver. Creating more free disk space has helped me in the past.
