spool32 message box, block all applicati

By kislaya ·
I am facing a tough situation for last two days. When I boot my pc it goes to windows (98), all desktop icons, start menu items, ..., comes but a message box containing "Windows cannot find spool32." comes out and asks to locate the spool32 program through a browse button. When I give the location "c:\windows\system\spool.exe" it again asks the same.
This mssg. box comes up everytime when I try to open any application through desktop icon or start menu. Even I am unable to run the "Run" command at Start Menu and any item at settings\control panel. I am totally helpless.
I have re-installed windows (98 SE) thrice in the same directory to save my application, but the situation is same. I have a lot of applications in my PC and I think if Itry Fress Installation of Windows, I could loose every application..!
Please help me and direct me what to do to save my applications.

Thank You.

spool32 message box, block all applicati

hmm. spool32 is the print spooler. i don't think it usually runs until you print unless you set it up that way...what has changed lately?
try safe mode to see if you get the same errors. once in safe mode, try Start/Run/msconfig <enter> look at thestartup tab to see if anything with spool32 is loading at startup. how is you virus protection? if not so hot, i'd start there. install/update/scan for viruses (if you ARE infected you could have trouble doing this, let us know) or, maybe you have astuck print job (i am fishing pretty wildly here). if so, it would be in \windows\spool\printers. just delete anything there. no harm. spool is a hidden folder, so you won't see it until you change your 'view' to show all files. let us know if you need more help...
