    Spool32 print error

    Locked

    by dcronin ·

We are running a basic NT network with 50+ users. We are printing to HP 5si
lasers. When printing from Excel +/or Word our users experience the dreaded
Spool32 error condition with the following detail info “Kernel32.dll at
014f:bff9a3c0”. Sometimes the document will print and other times it doesn’t
print. We usually have to reboot the PC and try again. We have downloaded
and applied SP32UPDT.exe to the effected machines and still get this error.
HELP , any help would be greatly appreciated. We have reinstalled Windows
but it doesn’t help. We even formatted the hard drive on one machine and
reinstalled all software but the error still occurs.

I know it will sound basic, but all I can think of is an incorrect call from the printer driver to spool32.dll. Did you try installing the drivers from the CD or is the server serrving the driver to the user?

Better yet, have you look at HP site to see if they have updated drivers or known issues and solutions for your case?

      Good Luck!

This seems pretty basic (I don’t mean to insult your intelligence, just to be thorough), but first make sure that you have enough swap file and hard drive space on your workstations to handle the spooling requirements locally.

Then, definitely check the HP website for the latest drivers for the LJ5si’s. It sounds like you are using Win95/98 clients, so make sure you download and apply the latest drivers BOTH on your NT server and your Win95/98 workstations.

I also wonder – are you getting any event log error messages on your server? You just might try uninstalling and reinstalling the Spooler service on your NT server (remember to reapply the latest service pack). I doubt that this is the problem, but it probably wouldn’t hurt, either. Hope this helps!

First check to make sure that you aren’t using the PS driver. You should use the PCL driver for the printer to print from Office programs. Next check the properties of the printer. Under spool settings make sure that the spool data format is set to RAW. If that doesn’t work, under spool settings check print directly to the printer. I find that these three steps solve most printer problems.

The problem can occur if the item being printed from Word/Excel has a complex autoshape and the printing is being done on a printer with a postscript driver installed.

The only thing to do about this would be to change drivers, print to a non-postscript printer, or clear the print object box under properties in the format menu of the drawing object/autoshape.
