Spooler service crashes

By Net Designer ·
WinXP SP2

Every time user prints to any of his installed printers, the spooler service stops and has to be restarted in order to print.
Previously suggested to me to change the printer driver did not work for us.

Is the printer local to the system or on the network?

How much memory in the workstation?

How much memory in the printer?

How large is the swap file on the local system?

Is the printer shared from a workstation or is it shared via a network print share device ie server or jetport box?

Here are a few links that may help (or maybe not):

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810894

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=324757

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=888196

Also, were there any event log entries?

Oh Yeah, about half way down in this one after the line:

"You may receive the following error message, and the print
spooler stops:"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314073

Good Luck,

razz

Here's a long shot. We had similar symptoms at one of our sites. Our server was inadvertedly exposed to and infected with 5 viruses, one or more of which caused the print spooler to stop. When the viruses were removed, the problem disappeared. Hope this helps.
