Spooler Sub System Dll error

By sunshine12B ·
when printing documents in Word or using Excel, I will get an error which reads " Spooler sub system Dll used an invalid or uninitialized "critial section". and my pc freezes, which I have to reboot. What is causing this problem and how can I correct it? My operating system is Win 98.

After running Dr. Watson I receive the above summary, along with " If the tastbar is behaving strangely, try exiting imgicon". I don't seem to be having a problem with my taskbar..

Thanks,

go to the printers manufacturer website and update the printer driver to the latest version.

refering to the second part, it's saying an icon on your taskbar (which controls a program) is behaving strangely.
It could be the icon representing theprinter software (hp and lexmarks are known for this).
