Spooler Subsystem App

"Spooler SubSubsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with WINXP. I have a HP Laserjet 1020 Printer. I noticed the above message keeps popping up, I cannot use my printer at all. No printers are listed in the Control Panel or device manager. I have had the same printer for a few months, I have not changed anything on my computer recently. I have also noticed that it has caused my computer to be very, very sluggish. I am starting to get passed being frustrated, right now I am down right pissed off. Is there any chance I have a virus ?

It's possible if you don't have an anti-virus solution installed and are scanning for malware with something like AdAware.

Microsoft also has this article:

If the Printer Spooler closes, no printers will be available at all until the spooler is restarted. There are a few things that I have done to correct the spooler closing like that.
1. if the spooler can restart, restart it then delete all printers, reboot, and re-add them with the latest drivers).
2. If the spooler cannot restart, or restarts and then immediately closes, run for Spyware/Viri. and/or end task running apps until the spooler can open, take note of the apps that were ended in this manner.
Usually these will help, or identify the application that has a problem. But if these do not work, Re-Install the latest service pack and patches
If none of these did the trick, please repost

The computer is still not working. When I try to add a printer it says "Operation Could not be Completed". I have Norton Internet Security Software and ran it, no viruses or adware was found. After the full system scan the computer still wont print. I am not sure how to reset or restart the spooler. I dont have a lexmark printer like the Microsoft Document mentions, nor the file it says to click on. I still have the same boxes popping up randomly ..."Spooler SubSubsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close"

When I went to the link to re-run the XP-SP2, it says not to download if you are only using one computer to use the Microsoft Updates. Well, no luck is it okay to download this to one computer?

I had this problem recently.. Heres what i did:
first go to start|run, type services.msc , Find spooler and go to its properties page, if it is not running try to set it to automatic and click start... you may get an error- if this doesnt work uninstall the drivers for your printer..then reboot then reinstall them... make sure you keep the printer off too... hope that helps
