For my last posting regarding shopnav spyware, I got the following answer.
"1st if this is xp shutdown the system restore.
2nd get spybot search and destroy update it and run it.
3rd this is the procedure to remove it.
4th run lavasoft again.
5th the run your updated virus scaner
6th I also suggest you et a firewal"

But I could not understand the 1st and 2nd points. Can you explain little bit more?

First of all, Windows XP restore has to be stopped or it will snapshot the infected file and replace it upon reboot.

To shut down system retore:
Go to My Computer and click on view system information. Then click on the System Restore tab and check the Turn off system restore on all drives.

Download spy-bot by visiting this link,

When finished, run Adaware:

Then reeneable system restore by unchecking the box you checked in the beginning.

Side note, you will get much faster responses if you post to the Technical Q&A forum intead of discussions. This forum is more of a chat forum as opposed to a tech support forum.

Good luck

Spyware is everywhere

Spyware has been a big topic on TechRepublic lately. We have lots of resources available, but the main point is to download Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware. You can get them off too:

You can see my rant on the subject here:
