SpyBot Search & Destroy Problem

By pierrejamme ·
I have been using SpyBot Search & Destroy since I first became aware of it and am enamored of it. However, it has been getting on my nerves lately.
I run it once a week and for several months now it has insisted I insert a CD into the CDROM drive??
I get this error: "SpybotSD.exe - No disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive M:. Cancel-TryAgain-Continue."

The only thing that works is to insert a CD and hit Try Again.

I have sent two emails to Safernetworking support, but never received a response. So, either they have no clue what causes it or are too busy to respond.

The most likely is that it needs to be refreshed, it indicates that; so something, likly an "IP" (Identity Protocol) for some reason is not there; finally, this is the ugly one, your system may not have the chip megs or the drive space available and able to support its operating. Sadly this does not tell you what to do to fix the problem, but it might let someone else here at techrepublic give you a solution.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail. Computer is running 2GB memory and has 2 120GB hard drives with 50 & 80% free, so that isn't an issue.

I would recommend you download a fresh copy to your Desktop and attempt install (double click) from your desktop.

Is Spybot the trial version that has expired and now wants the disc

The other thing is check your configuration, the box may be checked to scan SpybotSD.exe
SpybotSD.exe is part of SpyBot.

SpybotSD.exe is located in "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\". [Edit]
cd-rom,if so uncheck and try again

As far as I no, there is no trial version of Spybot Search & Destroy.
Sorry I didn't understand what you wanted me to edit and uncheck in your second sentence?? The only thing to edit in that directory is "default configuration.ini"

Probably to save any needed data and reinstall (repartition/reformat) will probably be your most cost effective solution time-wise (since you have had the spyware/virus for so long). With time, some of these malware programs become so entrenched that even eradicating everything from the PC still leaves parts of the OS malfunctioning.

If you want to try to salvage the system and you have XP, download/update/scan with Microsoft AntiSpyware from Safe Mode with Networking. Delete any malware it finds. Also in this mode, do the same with your virus checker.

Spybot will probably need a complete uninstall/reinstall/update/rescan in Safe Mode.

If you still have problems with eradicating this from the PC, download and run HijackThis, and post the log to the HJT forum. The following link will get you started

I don't want to get rid of anything, just trying to get Peter kolla's spy Bot Search and Destroy to scan my hard drives without trying to scan the CDROM.

Sorry if I confused you.

Trying to refresh the operation might give you all the data I mentioned before; also see if you can get someone to set a Static Copy with a refresh cycle attached to it so that periodicallythe software will be refreshed. This copy is not kept in C drive but one of the storage or C drive support drives.

Thanks for the email.
