    Spyware? – auto pop-up porn

    Locked

    by brad.minus ·

Well, this is interesting. It is only happening on my home computer and I cannot find it anywhere. Whenever I start IE 6.0 within the first 5 click I automatically am directed to the same porn pages. I have used ad-aware, and a couple of other products to catch spyware and ads and it does not find it. I have manually searched my registry and also cannot find the reason why I keep getting pop-up porn. Do you know of a utility to find where this is on my computer and way to keep it from coming back? I have also rid my computer of the cookies and temp internet files and it still keeps coming back. Please HELP!

http://www.cexx.org is a cite dedicated to elimination of spyware/adware etc. It tracks new pop ups and tells you how to deal with them, lists all the software they know of etc.

Personally, I’ve used ad-aware, but have switched to Spybot Search and Destroy which seems to catch more things.

      Good luck.

You might have been Lop’d. This site installs various popup porn items and really screws things up.

      Try this:

      Go to:
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper and look for two files: desktop.swf and
desktop.html. Try renaming them and rebooting to see if the Flash popup is
gone. If it works you can then remove the files.

You may also want to check for \Windows\Application Data\ for “plg_ie0.dll”
and delete it if present. This is a sometimes leftover.

It has also been reported that there may be other files in
%windir%\Profiles\%UserName%\Application Data\ with the same date that also
should be removed. (They perhaps will have names such as lop*.exe and/or
deskicon.lib, but these may not be exact.)

      Let us know what happens.

The only way these get on your PC in most cases is by clicking on a pop-up window that has opened, very easy to recognize since when you try to close it, all you have is a hand instead of your normal arrow.

The way to close is CTRL+ALT+DEL & thenend task on Internet Explorer. Most times you’ll lose all open instances of IE but better that then trying to get rid of it later. One other thing that sometimes happens is you’ll lose your taskbar if that happens just open My Computer & close againtaskbar will reappear.

This is obvious. I have tried this, but even if I am on Yahoo or CNN depending on the amount of clicks these same porn sites pop up. Believe me I have tried this, but I know there is something riding on my system. Whether I end it by the task manager or not does not solve the problem

Sorry for the confusion you asked
“Do you know of a utility to find where this is on my computer and way to keep it from coming back?”
Since the first part of your question was answered “use Ad-aware” I was simply trying to answer the second part”how to keep them from coming back” which I felt you were asking how to make sure you don’t these on your PC in the future, so I simply explained the method they use to get on your PC in the first place & how to stop it.

      Regards

go to http://www.panicware.com and download and install pop-up stopper. It will not allow a pop-up to open another browser window.
