Spyware issues

By Luvsbooks ·
Have an ACER 3000 laptop that my daughter loaded some spyware program that seems to have removed needed system files. Cannot connect to the wireless internet and cannot "see" DOS. Can get to the DOS prompts but when you type n commands you get no reply. Restore does not to fix without wiping the system clean??

Alot of questions but here are the first two that came to mind. What spyware program? Is it the spyware or the anti-spyware that was loaded? Rob

Yes, you're being too vague.

Do us all a favor and run a few utilities such as Spybot, Adaware, MS AntiSpyware (now Defender), etc perhaps even HijackThis.

Let us know the results.

Also, run AV program.

You didn't say, but I am assuming XP Home OS.
If it is and you had considerable spyware and trojans such as you get from PtoP music downloads. XP is hosed. Save your files and wipe it. Takes about 4 hours and you can spend 4 days trying to fix it and never achieve your goal.
Install a good virus scanner first, then a firewall or use SP2's.

SpyWare programs that remove needed files are called spyWare. there are hundreds if not thousands out there. If you want free, the Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 from Safernetworking and Adaware Personal 1.06 from Lavasoft. Look a likes are dangerous.

Be sure to remove all restore points before running any cleaners. The restore points will most likely hide the virus or malware you have. A good computer cleaner is stinger from Mcafee anti virus and its free! It sounds like you have a browser hijacker. Try cwshreder its free on the web to.
I hate all the writers of virus's and maware.
