spyware/virus help

By tallgadge ·

need some help please with 2 problems.

today, for the first time ever, a process called "regscan.exe" attemtped to run on my pc, since i did not recognise it, i denied it internet access. when i googled the problem, i was told it is a backdoor trojan, but all my antispyware programs (adaware spybot and pestpatrol) all did not find anything, nor did my antivirus (zonealarm). i've run full scans with all of these, and all of them are clean. my question is, is this a legitimate component of windows, or should i delete this program?

second: i use a VOIP phone with a leading UK supermarket (sorry, daren't say the exact name in case i get sued) but they say every thing helps........) and when i downloaded their installer for the phone, pestpatrol's realtime protection kicked up and said it contained a key logger called aspy v2.12 again, all the other scanners came up clean. when i rang the leading supermarket up, they were, to put it bluntly, not interested. has anyone else had this problem, and does it really contain a keylogger?

technical info:
i use windows xp home edition with service pack 2, and all updates are fully installed.
internet access is via a cable modem, 4 meg broadband speed
firewall is zonealarm
version of pestpatrol i'm using is 4.4

thanks anyone who can help.
