SQL 2005 Error when restoring backup

By mellow52 ·
Hi,

I currently have a sql 2005 server and installed sql 2005 onto another server that already has sql2000. I do not want to remove the sql2000. When I try and recover a backed up data base from the dedicated sql2005 server to the sql2005 server that is on the same server as 2000 I get the following error:

Too many backup devices specified for backup or restore; only 64 are allowed.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

thanks

Latest Service Packs?

Try updating SQL 2000 to Service Pack 4.

I've also seen this error occur a SQL 2005 backup is used in a restore attempt on a SQL 2000 database.

Did you move the 2k data onto it?

Either way worth checking the compatibility mode on the 2005 databases.

If it thinks they came from 2k it will be 80, 2005 expects 90
