SQL 7.0 - Databases show as 'suspect'

By awinterrowd ·
We are bringing a new SQL 7.0 server (running under NT4.0 server, w svc pack 6) into production. This will be a long term data repository for a mainframe system. The database was set up by the supplier of our mainframe software (they have their own front end, etc.) but administering the SQL side of things is our responsibility. Almost every day one or both of the non-system databases show up as 'suspect. Rebooting clears up the problem, but rebooting the server daily is not an acceptable fix. The mainframe people say this is not a problem they have seen. Any help?

There are few reasons why SQL dbs became suspect mode. Have you tried manually start and stop the SQL services beside rebooting. Did you not see any SQL Server return error codes when the dbs became suspect, as to what actually happen to your devices.

Cheers

Suspect mode means some Kind of corruption may have taken place. Whatever the corruption level is, when you bring down and up the servers, you may be loosing one or more transactions, probably the suspected one.
Before shuting down SQL, watch the sql error log and the current activity window, dont' forget the event viewer too.
Issue a Dunp transaction <Db name> with no_log in order to turn suspect off. If the problem persist, you can analize the dumped transaction file with a log analizer in order to see where it may came from.
