SQL Express memory consumption..

By stevef199 ·
..is much much higher than MSDE. Keeping the database the same, the memory used by SQL Express(as shown in Task Manager for the sqlserver process) is 220 MB; when I had it running with MSDE, it was 70 MB tops.

What is going on? is there a way to set a limit ? I ask because most of my workstations are XP Professional with 256 MB of RAM.. so resources are quite constrained already.

Thanks in advance.

sp_configure 'max server memory','bytes of memory'
Alternately you can configure the max memory through the object model.

NOTE: 256MB is an awefully small about of memory to be using on a machine. Especially with how cheap memory is I would recommend going to at least 512MB (I prefer having my systems at or near their max memory). Even if you increase your system memory you will probably still want to limit the memory to keep it under control.
