SQL Server Error in Event Log

By ksaravanan ·
Hello all,

I am getting the following SQL Error in my server Event Log.
---------------------------------------------
Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0
SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 9 generated fatal exception c0000005
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
---------------------------------------------
We get this error periodically with the process number
changing.Whenever we are getting this error, the CPU usage goes to
100% , and we are getting either page cannot be displayed error on
our two sites or SQL Time out errors in the pages.

We are using the SQL Server v7 with sp2 on a Win2k box with sp2.The
same machine hosts
two websites which have two databases for their use on the sqlserever.Ours is an IBM machine with 15 GB hard disk and 192MB RAM.

We use COM+ and MTS for defining our business rules and
transactions. Also we have two jobs(SQL Jobs) running periodically on
the server for backing up the Databases.

Does any one have any idea why we are getting this error?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Saravanan K

SQL Server Error in Event Log

by BeerMonster In reply to SQL Server Error in Event ...

Hi,
There are a host of things which could cause this error, many related to 'features' in the way SQL 7 handles certain query \ update syntax. I think you're best bet is to apply SQL 7 service pack 3 - if it is a feature there's a good chance that will have a fix for it. Other than that, you are faced with a 'needle in a haystack' troubleshooting session. Good luck....
