sql server ODBC error

By bf ·
when i try to open ODBC in control panel in win 95, nothing happens. it doesn't open at all, and when i try to run a program associated with sql, i get an error stating that "an external .dll file is missing"
i tried uninstalling sql, but i get the same missing .dll error. i reinstalled ie4 with SP2, which is what is required by this program, but nothing. i also reinstalled the program, but same error. does anyone know how i can uninstall sql odbc connections, or how i could get the control panel to open?
thanks in advance

Sounds like you need to download odbc 3.0. You can get it here: http://support.microsoft.com/support/downloads/dp2445.asp?FinishURL=%2Fdownloads%2Frelease%2Easp%3FReleaseID%3D10194%26redirect%3Dno

Get and install the MDAC update from http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm. This should solve all of your dll probelms.

I would go to the microsoft download site and get something called Microsoft Data Access Components (mdac). I suspect you got some sort of dll mismatch that's giving you this.

I'm not sure if you'you've done it this way or no, but one way I got to work was to do a search on odbc*.* and either rename those or cut and paste them into a backup directory and then rerun the office setup to reinstall those.

Hope that helps

Mark

If you're trying to tie into SQL server, you'll want to remove/delete odbc*.dll from your c:\windows\system directory. Then either reinstall the SQL server client components, or update your MDACs (either will reinstall the right set of ODBC drivers... make sure you get all of them or you'll get strange incompatability errors/statements).
