SQL trans Log

Hi,
I am having a problem with backing up transaction logs on MS SQL 2000. I have a maintenance plan running that backs up the database, but not the transaction log.I’m also unable to copy the transaction log. I get the following: message “There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file my be in use.”
I do have the DB Recovery mode set to Simple.

Appreciate any help.
