I am attempting to set up a secure network for our web server. At the top, we have a Cisco ASA 5510. Below that, I am going to have a linux box on the dmz that will act as a reverse proxy. I will have the actual web server on a separate subnet, and the reverse proxy will have to refer to this separate subnet to relay requests to the web page. Then I will have the internal subnet.
I was planning on using Smoothwall or IPCop as the distro on the linux box, but since there is nothing directly behind the reverse proxy, smoothwall’s firewall capabilities are somewhat unused.
Are there distros designed specifically for running squid/reverse proxy or will smoothwall do it just as well as any other? Smoothwall asks for two interfaces (green and red) but since this linux box will only be connected on one interface (to the ASA firewall), I am unsure how to configure it in smoothwall.
Any experience in this area?
