SSH connection problems

By bjastles ·
When using PuTTY or WinSCP on a windows client the connection dies after about 20 min. Now here is the catch, if I PuTTY to another Linux server and then use ssh to connect back to the problematic server the connection never breaks. The problematic server is a Dell PowerEdge 2900 with a Boardcom NetXtreme II NIC running Debian Linux.

I have upgraded the client software to the latest release. It is a bit better but still cuts the connection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to check your firewall setting for idle connection timeout.

There is no firewall on ether machien. An other symptom has croped up; when accessing webmin, some times the browser has problemes and says that the server is taking to long to respond, resubmitting the page most often fixes the problem.

That sounds very much like a Time Out Error is occurring.

I would go back to the original server and check the settings.

Thanks for the inkling. After greping through the logs I found a misconfiguration in the 'resolv.conf' and 'interface' files. A vary hard problem to track down! Thanks to all who helped.
