SSRS 2008 DNS Alias

By grubbii ·
All,

Currently, we are using SSRS 2008 and so IIS is not required. In any case, of course the URL http://servername/Reports works fine, but I would rather make it easier for users by making a DNS alias such as http://www.reporting.com. The problem is, in Active Directory, I cannot make an alias that points to a folder/virtual directory. That is, I CANNOT configure www.reporting.com = servername/reports (it doesn't like the /reports).

I have looked all over Google and on here, but cannot solve it. Please, any advice would be appreciated.

Some thoughts.

1) Move servername/reports to a new subdomain (e.g., reports.servername).

2) Create a CNAME relationship between reports.servername and reporting.com.

My advice is to not use a www subdomain (why would you?), and also not to use an internet TLD like com in you private network.

You have to do these things in your DNS server, not IIS or SSRS or anywhere else.
