Stand alone win xp pro pc

By Shaun.G ·
Recently I have obtained a WIN XP PRO pc. It is stand alone, and not connected to the internet.

It runs songpro v 4 and msoffice 2003.

At odd times, the hard drive seems to run... like some application is copying loads of data to the hard drive... how do I prevent this occuring and or what could be the cause of this?

you mean that the hdd is making noice when there is no one using it.Click start and run.Type msconfig to see what is in the start up tab.Untick everything you dont think you need.If you are familiar with back ground services, have a look in the serveses tab and see if there is anything there that should not be there

systems restore

system restore maybe? Use regmon, process monitor, filemon from sysinternals and taskmanager to see what process has the cpu during copying time.

Perhaps, but I did not set up a system restore. I shall look at the regmon, process monitor, filemon from sysinternals, but how and where do get these tools please?
