Greetings, folks!
We’re in the planning stages of a network upgrade here, and part of what we’re planning to do is add a new dual-CPU Server running Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2005. Our current domain is currently all Windows 2000 Server.
As far as CALs go, we know what we need for SQL Server, but the WinServer 2003 requirements are a bit hazier. Do we have to get ‘x’ user CALs as well as the server license, or can it springboard off our existing licenses for the network users? (We’re currently set up as ‘per seat’ on the licensing side.)
What I’m also trying to find out is are there any technical ‘gotchas’ that we need to be aware of for having a stand-alone Windows 2003 application server in our Windows 2000 network. So far most of what I’ve found deals with domain controller promotion, but we’re not going to be making this server a DC.
Any help or pointers to useful resources gratefully appreciated. 🙂
Regards,
Bert V.V.
