Standalone drive

By wesley.chin ·
I have an external hard drive that serves as a backup drive. Currently it is connected to one machine.

Right now, there are several machines which are connected to share files via ethernet cables. The rest of the machines access the external hard drive through the machine that has the external hard drive.

Is it possible to have the external hard drive become standalone, unattached to a machine, and be accessible by all of the machines?

The external hard drive is USB. With that, what is there to prevent using one of the USB to Ethernet jacks to make the external hard drive standalone?

The available hardware

The USB Caddies have a USB to IDE interface not any Networking hardware included.

While you can plug in a USB Caddy to a Hub/Switch you can not make it work as it was never designed to work like that.
