If you mean desktop ICONS, we do it via a login script which copies icons from a folder on the server to each individuals’ desktop folder at startup.

If you do mean theme, i.e. wallpaper and the like, dunno. Probably create a default profile with the settings you want, then copy it to all the users’ profile folders on the server. Of course this will blow away their existing profiles.

Myabe some else knows a better do that.

At the NT server you can set up default profiles, roaming profiles as well as mandatory profiles. Too short an area to go through the step-by-step here, but any good NT ref manual will guide you through it.

The way I understand it is that you want your Win98 Machines to have the same desktop on the workstations.
For that Win98 ships with Desktop Themes component, first you need to make sure that it is installed by going to Control Panel to see if it is there. If you see the Desktop Themes Icon, then all you do is select whatever theme you want for all workstations, and if you do not want users to change them you can delete the rest of the Themes.
If the Desktop Themes icon is not in Control Panel, then you can enable it by double clicking on Add/Remove Programs icon in control panel and then click on the Windows Setup tab from the top of the Window, then scroll down to Desktop Thems and place a check mark next to it to select it and click apply, you may get prompted to insert your Win98 CD to copy some files.

      Hope this helps…

Use the System Policy Editor located under \Tools\reskit\netadmin\poledit on your Windows 98 CD.

Run this Policy Editor on a computer running Win98. Save the policy settings to a file named CONFIG.POL.

Save the CONFIG.POL file to the Netlogonshare on the PDC (System32\Repl\Import\Scripts). Make sure the domain replication is in place to replicate this file to all BDCs in your network or you will have to manually copy it to each domain controller.

For maximum control, with Policy Editor you can also prevent access to the Display applet under Control Panel as well 🙂
