Start disabled

I have a problem getting my start up menu to work I can get to the desk top and the desktop Icons but the start button takes a long time to load and control panel will not load as well as some program is there a virus fix for this kind of problem?

Need a little more info. What are the machine specs (processor, memory and OS)? If you are running NT or w2k use the Task Manager and see what processes are running and which ones are using the most CPU cycles. If you're running win98 get a utility like atm to do the same.

It sounds more like something is hogging your processor than anything else at this point.
