Start in Safe Mode only Too!!

By pktenterprises ·
My case is slightly different. I reinstalled windows. But, I still can't completely boot to windows normal. I get a screen message "lmouse.vxd" & "lmul.vxd must have been deleted.
Then it automatically shuts the machine down.
I have the original98 SE upgrade disk and reinstalled. Now the "lmul.vxd" is ok but I still get the "lmouse.vxd" error message.
These files should be on the 98 SE disk. why didn't it install the "lmouse.vxc"???
Help

.VXD (virtual device driver) errors often point to memory issues.

Make sure that your RAM is fully seated and properly detected.

From safe mode, or the DOS prompt, browse to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Delete the .vxd files form the folder and sub-folders.

Shut down, and boot with a W98 startup floppy.
Insert your CD and run setup.
Make sure that you install Windows to the same folder as it is in now.

Thanks but it didn't work to reistall the win98.
My next solution - will be to download the driver and install it. I'll let you know tomorrow if that works.
Thanks again
Pam

If you have another win98 pc around or a neighbor with one get the driver from there.
