Starting up Windows

By ltran007 ·
My name is John and i recently installed a DVD Burner onto my Desktop. When i reboot, the OEM shows then turns pitch black before the window's Logo is supposed to show up. I took out the burner and restarted but i get the same problem...black screen. I tried F8 and safe mode, VGA mode, and Last known good configuration but it all turns black....anyone have any other suggestions?

Use Remote Desktop

by jim.azar In reply to Starting up Windows

1) Let the machine boot up with the black screen, then use remote desktop from another PC and use the System Restore on the Help and Support menu to put the system back to a time before you installed the DVD Burner.

2) If you never turned on Remote Desktop then you can turn it on by using a second machine on the network and then using file/connect to network registry to connect to the registry of the errant machine. The key you need to change to enable remote desktop is:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections

Set the value to "0" and you Remote Desktop will be enabled. Go back to step 1

3) If the system won't boot up completely or you can't use remote desktop, then you can boot from your Window XP installation CD and use the system repair.

I hope this helps, let us know.
