Is there anyway to control the program boot order that launches at startup?

For example: I want Zone Alarm to load first, Norton Antivirus second and so on...

Any pointers are welcome. TIA

I'm not sure if you can overide the way Windows starts the programs listed in MSCONFIG. What you may want to try though is to create a restore point, then use MSCONFIG to disable the programs you want to open in a specific order. Next write a batch file (a notepad file with a .bat extension instead of a .txt extension), and begin each line with Start /w <program path and name>. e.g.:

start /w c:\program files\games\game1\game.exe

and list the progs in the order in which you want them started. Call it prog.bat or whatever.

The start command starts the program and the /w switch tells the batch file to wait until the previous command has finished. Therefore, the programs should load in the order specified.

Place the .bat file in your startup folder on the Start menu.

If it all goes pear-shaped, you can either re-enable the startup items using MSCONFIG or restore your computer using the restore point you created earlier.

Good luck

I haven't actually tried it but I think it loads them in the order under \hk_lm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run
