I am building a computer from spare parts. The m/bds I have tried cannot be checked by me, but everything else has been tried in my current machine, but anyway they all worked well when I last used them. The ?old? hd is a Maxtor 40 Gb (AOK and only 2 months old) which has XP Prof etc on the board . The old Jetway V266B (18 months) was OK when I upgraded. There is a single 256 Mb PC 133 RAM fitted which is definitely OK. The CPU is an AMD Athlon 1300 (1000 true speed). The PSU is 300W.
The Bios registers everything OK and the starting screens are normal until the ?inconvenience? screen pops up and offers several startup choices. NONE WORK. After selecting ANY choice the machine freezes and will not progress, even the countdown stops. In the case of ?Safe Mode? a list of files careers past and ? freezes! I have tried two other ?old? m\bds with exactly the same results. Baffled. I have not tried ?FIXMBR? or whatever as I cannot quite understand how to ?get it?. In any case could this affect three different make motherboards one after the other. Your advices please.
