Startup problems

By foxy2_angel ·
Hello, I wanted to know if someone could give me some advice on how to recover from a warm reboot. My Win98 SE computer crashed a few weeks ago, and it hangs whenever it goes through a warm reboot. I was told that MS has some kind of patch for this, but I'm having difficulty finding it. I'm just tired of constantly having to shut down and doing a cold reboot. Please help!
Thanks.
Diane

SE most constant warm reboot problem occurs from a corrupt shutdown sound. to check and see if this is the problem, go to you control panel and under sounds, just disable all of them. Tell it to apply and then reboot. If this is not the problem, eliminate one program at a time in the config ("run" msconfig) mgr under startup. The culprit may be there. I will look for the patch and if located, I will forward it to you.

Thanks anyway for the help. There is nothing wrong with my sound, even though I took your advice. Although, it didn't help me, and when MS reformatted my C drive, there is nothing in (msconfig)the config area. Microsoft said I didn't need anything there anyway with win98. But I would appreciate that patch though, if you can locate it.

I appreciate your help, but again it was not helpful to me. I downloaded the patch, knowing that it was the wrong patch, I tried it anyway, because I don't have to many choices anyway...but it is the wrong patch. I don't need a shutdown patch, as that is not my problem...I have no problems shutting down. My problem is rebooting from a warm boot, not from a cold boot, I had no problems from a cold boot...
If there is anyone out there that can help me out here, I'd greatly appreciate it...
Thanks anyway Paul, I do appreciate all that you've done...*s*

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/support/faq/FAQ-windows98-ed2.asp. There is a section for Startup and Shutdown Issues. Also, look at: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q186/9/25.asp. I hope this helps. What kind of computer is it?

sorry, the pages cannot be found. I think when you wrote it down, you made a mistake. I have a Dell Dimension PII 233MHz.
If you resubmit the second one to me, then maybe it will work. I tried the first site already with no luck.
