Startup Programs

By steveg ·
I am running Windows 2000 Pro. I have cleaned out my startup folder but there are still processes starting up that I don't want or need when my PC boots up. How do I get rid of them. In Win 98, I used to use the System Configuration editor, but in Win 2000 it does not give me a choice to delete the process permanently. Please help.

What you need to do is to go into Administrative services throught the control panel and choose services. There you can determine what you want to load at start up, and what you want to load manually. If you don't know what it is, leave it alone.

Here is a link that will walk you through it:

you may need edit register:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\
RUN
RUNONCE
RUNONCEEX

delete the value in these key.

PS. make sure do a backup of reg.

Also you can just type "msinfo32" at run command.
