Startup stays on black screen

By Neilinoz ·
I have XP Home, and when booting it will not go past the black startup screens, it stops on a screen asking to boot to
Start windows normally or some other Modes, but when I try to open in any other mode or normal mode, it shuts down and comes back to the same screen,
Thank you
Neil

hi ,
Have u installed some Antivirus , System utitlity , or some sort of software on ur computer. If yes....

Try booting in Safe mode.

& uninstall the same software. Hopefully it'll solve ur problem.

Start -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs

If not have u installed some New Hardware or hardware drivers recently. IF yes Uninstall those.

Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager & then locate the device/driver newly install.

Try to uninstall.

Hopefully it'll solve the problem.

Hi,

Do you haveanother computer you can plug your HDD into?
If so transfer it and run anti virus and anti spyware over it.
Anti spyware = adaware and spybot.

Provided that you scan for viri, trojans and adware/malware and find nothing, run a Windows in-place repair:

I just recently had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad keyboard. I replaced the keyboard and the problem went away. If you have access to another keyboard it is worth a shot.

Disable Reboot on Sytem Failure in startup menu. You may need to press a function key to show all options (it's F5, I think).

Then see if there is an error message prior to Windows automatically restarting. Post back with error message and we'll take it from there.

I suspect a corrupt registry. If that's the case, you cannot perform a repair install.
